Project Introduction

Pushy Plushy is a local multiplayer fast paced 2-4 player party game developed by Thinking Brick Studios, an indie studio of 10 people, who were once a group of 30 students that developed the game during a collab module in 8 weeks.

I was brought onto the project officially in August of 2025 to be the multiplayer engineer as no one continuing development of the project after University had the experience. Later when our lead left the project, I was personally selected by him to become the new lead tech in his absence.

Pitching and Events

Since joining the team we have pitched to a publisher and was brought on with partial funding for a steam page and future funding depending on wishlist count. Unfortunately due to financial decisions we were dropped. However myself and the producer have went to numerous events such as gamebridge and lets talk games to promote the title and find new publishers who may be interested in picking up the title.

Converting the existing codebase

My main contribution to the codebase, apart from creating new minigames and modifiers with the design team, has been converting the existing codebase to work with online multiplayer, as that is our final goal before we wish to achieve before releasing the game.

We have currently got a demo system working utilising EOS to connect clients and host games, now we just need to convert all gameplay mechanics and features to ensure they work with online multiplayer.

Project Reflection

Although this project is still going on in the Indie development space, working on it on the tech side has broadened my experience on creating multiplayer games, especially their backend communication systems. Furthermore the pitching and events I have attended have improved my public speaking skills even more.
